Encouraging Sailing in the Dark Peak
Dark Peak Sailing is the collective voice of sailing clubs within the Dark Peak region of Derbyshire, West Yorkshire and the north east fringe of Cheshire. This initiative aims to improve the sailing opportunities for novices and experienced sailors of all ages to experience the exhilaration of sailing and windsurfing on our local lakes and reservoirs, situated in some of the most attractive English countryside.
The UK excels at Olympic sailing with an enviable record of British gold medals. At a recent meeting, the clubs joined forces to decide how best to promote and develop their sport in the run up to the 2012 Olympics, which will be the perfect opportunity to show off the fun and excitement of sailing and windsurfing.
Between them, these clubs offer a wealth of experience and facilities for juniors, adults and senor sailors, and windsurfers of every standard.
By working together to promote sailing in the Dark Peak area, the clubs will be able to offer a comprehesive programme of open days, taster sessions, training courses and spectator events across the region. These, the clubs believe, will increase interest and participation in the sport for all memebrs of the local communities across the Dark Peak.
The calendar on this page gives dates for scheduled events at the clubs. If you would like a free taster session on dinghy sailing or windsurfing as an introduction at these or at other mutually convenient times, please contact your local club, available via the listing on the clubs page.
